About the academy

SLP Junior Academy provides a high level of training in Dance and Musical Theatre. Our focus is on progressive teaching within a fun and safe environment.

We offer classes in RAD Ballet as well as ISTD Modern and Tap for children aged 3 and above in a safe and caring environment a variety of other classes are also available including Musical Theatre, Acting, Singing, Jazz and Street Dance.

All of our pupils benefit from state of the art facilities designed for both Dance and Musical Theatre. We have eleven professional studios, changing facilities, Café area, “Dance Gear” shop and ample free parking in the college car park.

Sandra Reid
Teaching in Garforth for 45 years, Miss Reid opened the building on Chapel Lane in ’91 with a vision to enable children to dance in safe professional studios regardless of financial status. Although retired from mainstream teaching, Miss Reid enjoys overseeing the development of children through all the wonderful classes here at SLP. A passionate believer in equality for all, with the mind-set that all children are important and should be able to experience the ‘joy of dance’.
Hannah Rooke
Vice Principal
Miss Hannah studied at SLP College graduating with her teaching qualifications in ISTD Tap Modern and national as well as IDTA Ballet. Hannah taught throughout the North of England both syllabus and Freestyle classes, choreographing Musicals, Festivals and Pantomimes. Her exam results at SLP College and Junior Academy have been exemplary with pupils, winning the class prizes at the London ISTD Janet Cram Awards and the boys’ junior section.
Daisy Jones
RAD Ballet, ISTD Tap & Modern, Grades & Majors
DDI, DDE, ISTD Ballet, Tap, Modern, National, Disco and Freestyle, Lamda teaching certificate. Miss Jones has joined the Academy from SLP College and is an experienced teacher of Ballet, Tap and Modern (ISTD & RAD). She spent three years teaching both young students and adults at LlarDansa in Palma De Mallorca, where she was responsible for entering RAD ballet grades and majors and ISTD Tap and Modern up to and including Advanced 2. Miss Jones is thrilled to be joining the Academy as she loves teaching children.
Lucy Emery
RAD Children’s Grades & Majors
PDTD, RTS RAD Teacher of Ballet
Miss Lucy trained at the Royal Ballet School where she developed a passion for choreography alongside dancing, winning the SIr Kenneth MacMillan competition and second place at the Ursula Moreton Choreographic Competition. Having gained her PDTD with distinction Lucy has since taught for the Norwegian National Ballet School, Norsk Balletinstitutt and Oslo National Academy of The Arts as well as for the RAD at their summer school in Norway.
Charlie Woodcock
Head of Jazz and Musical Theatre
IDTA Freestyle.
Charlie attended SLP College and graduated in 2012. Since graduating, Charlie moved down to London and worked within the commercial industry, choreographing and performing for 3 years. Miss Charlie now teaches throughout the age range of the Academy as well as the College. She specialises in competition pieces, acro and limbering along with supporting the Children throughout their early training. She is delighted to be a part of the Junior Academy team and is looking forward to a bright future.
Adam Stadius
Acting, Voice and Acting through Song
Adam graduated with an MA Distinction from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and is now a successful lecturer, acting coach, teacher and director. He has delivered classes in Acting Techniques, Physical Theatre, Voice and Musical Theatre. Adam specialises in the Meisner Technique of acting and is on the audition panel for the MA Music Theatre course at RCSSD. His directing credits include Seussical, The Drowsy Chaperone, The Witches of Eastwick.
Andrew Griffiths
Musical Director
PG Dip, BMus Teacher of Repertoire Andrew trained at the Royal Northern College of Music and has vast experience in the roles of Musical Director, Composer and Accompanist. Andrew has worked extensively on UK Tours, inc South Pacific, Evita, Joseph and Scrooge. More recently Andrew’s Theatre based work has included Oliver!, Singin’ in The Rain and Legally Blonde and Patience with the National Gilbert & Sulivan Opera Company.
Kim Buckley
Teacher of Acting
A qualified teacher, Miss Buckley is an experienced Drama Practitioner and was Subject Leader of Drama at a local High School where she attained ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted for her teaching. Kim is also an Arts Award Advisor (Bronze and Silver) and has planned and delivered workshops for gifted and talented students. Areas of expertise include Drama Teaching, Theatre History, Directing Plays, Teaching & Learning and Mentoring & Coaching.
